At Habbas & Associates, we have always been committed to serving our community, not just in the courtroom but in all aspects of civic engagement. That is why we are proud to announce that our founding attorney, Omar Habbas, has partnered with San José Spotlight to launch a groundbreaking educational initiative supporting the future of local journalism.
Local news is the backbone of an informed society, yet over 3,200 newspapers have shut down across the country since 2005, leaving many communities without reliable sources of information. This decline in journalism has been linked to a rise in misinformation, reduced civic participation, and increased political polarization. Understanding the importance of a free and thriving press, Mr. Habbas is honored to be the first major supporter of this initiative.
“Law and journalism share a common mission: the pursuit of truth and justice,” says Mr. Habbas. “Partnering with San José Spotlight to ensure that future generations have access to high-quality reporting is a privilege.”
This new initiative is designed to provide mentorship, training, and real-world experience to aspiring journalists, particularly those from underrepresented communities. By equipping young reporters with investigative skills and ethical journalism practices, the program will help ensure that local news remains strong and independent in Silicon Valley.
Founded in 2019, San José Spotlight is a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to fearless journalism that amplifies marginalized voices and holds power to account. The organization is actively seeking additional funding from philanthropic partners to expand the program’s reach.
At Habbas & Associates, we recognize that justice extends beyond the courtroom. Supporting initiatives like this is just one of the ways we give back to the community that has entrusted us for decades. We invite others to join in this important cause and help protect the future of local news.
