Academic Background and Legal Training

Laura graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1986 with a double major in English and Political Science.

Following graduation, she spent a year teaching a course in the Peace and Conflict Studies Department at Berkeley, an experience that reflects her strong communication skills and thoughtful approach to complex issues.

She later attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 1990. She was admitted to the California Bar in 1991.

Laura has been married for over 30 years to her husband, Abe, and is the proud mother of a son and daughter who remain a central part of her life. Outside of her legal work, she enjoys hiking with her dog along the trails of the San Mateo coast, reading, cooking, and spending time with her extended family. She is also an active musician, playing flute in a community band and singing alto in the Skyline Concert Choir.
